Tony & Anita Carter set up their pottery in the beautiful village of Debenham set deep in the Suffolk countryside over thirty years ago.

Back in 1978 the pottery (which was originally known as Kiln Cottage Pottery) started making unusual teapots together with ‘avant garde’ mugs, vases, ashtrays etc and quickly gained an international market for their unique ceramics.

Today the pottery mainly designs and makes collectable teapots, each one being carefully cast and painted by hand, resulting in no two teapots being exactly the same. On the underside of some of the full size pots you will see it is numbered, relating to the year of design and its production. This of course adds greatly to their uniqueness and collectability. The pottery is known as one of England’s leading makers of handmade collectable teapots, supplying shops and stores throughout the UK with over 70% of the pottery/output exported throughout the world.

Tony Carter is continually bringing in new designs, thereby keeping the collection constantly changing, and this year is delighted to show the most comprehensive range ever made by the pottery.

Who is Tony Carter?

After obtaining his degree from Bath Academy of Art, and subsequent ATD from the University of London, Tony Carter with his wife Anita set up their pottery in Debenham, Suffolk (1978).
Tony’s inspiration comes from constant observation of life backed by a thorough understanding of the design of pottery. Many of his teapots have an almost timeless appeal which frequently remind people of past pleasures and forgotten objects of yesterday.
The Carters have been making their unique ceramics for over 30 years and live in a beautiful old cottage built in the region of  1500, also in the village of Debenham.

When not working Tony’s great pleasure is to go sailing with family and friends, (this interest is often seen in the pottery’s nautical range).

Tony is always pleased to hear from you and is quite delighted when his teapots find ‘good homes’ throughout the world.
